SUOC198: It’s All About the Coloring + CAS Tuesday

Hello there y’all and welcome to this week’s Stampin’ Up! Only Challenge 198 (#SUOC198) to show off your mad coloring skills! You can use any coloring medium available to you.

I made this adorable clean and simple card for one of my besties. I colored the cat to look like her cat that was forced to re-home and greatly misses. The porch swing reminds me of all of our outdoor conversations, and there’s been a lot over almost 40 years. I used a combination of re-inkers, markers, ink pads, and Blends to achieve the look.

There’s a lot of feminine elements to this card, such as the white lace doily coupled with the elegantly tinted embossing paste for additional texture on top of the watercolor paper. There was some fussy cutting involved with the pillows and cat, but it wasn’t too painful. Since watercolor paper is thick, I recommend taking a Basic Black Marker around the edges after you fussy cut to clean up those stark white edges. They are not attractive.

The thin Pool Party sentiment strip really ties to the color of the swing cushion nicely and balances the card out. Since the Pool Party elements are both thin, they need to bounce off each other. The other colors are strong enough in size to hold their own.

We would certainly love to have you join us this week and share your projects with us. Thank you so very much for stopping by to visit me today and God bless!

  1. Cut a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 and score at 4-1/4 for the card base.
  2. Cut another piece of Crumb Cake cardstock to 5-1/4 x 4. Tape the brick pattern from Party Pattern Decorative Masks over the cardstock. Using a Palette Knife, scoop out White Embossing Paste onto a Silicon Mat and apply 2-3 drops of Crumb Cake Reinker onto paste and mix to desired color. Evenly spread over decorative mask. Remove mask and immediately clean tools in warm, soapy water. Set aside panel to dry.
  3. Cut a 3-1/4 square piece of watercolor paper and stamp porch swing from Here For You in the center with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. Stamp the pillows and cat onto another piece of watercolor paper as above and heat set to help dry.
  4. Color in all images with your chosen medium. The colors I used are in the Supply List. Fussy cut out the pillows and cat. Use a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker around the cut edges of the images. Make sure you let everything dry in between or heat set.
  5. Stamp sentiment onto a thin strip of Pool Party cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.
  6. Size up White Doily under sentiment strip and adhere.
  7. To build up your card, adhered the embossing paste panel down to the base of the card, centered top to bottom and left to right. Adhere watercolor image panel to embossed panel. Adhere pillows directly onto porch swing. Use Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals for the cat and left side of the sentiment. The sentiment is adhered directly to the watercolor panel and offset to the left with 1 Mini Stampin’ Dimension on the far left.
