You, Me & the Sea

CASTuesRotatingBannerHello there! I know I'm a few days late posting this card. I've had the Saddle Fire haze up my life for a few days. That fire is still burning at 60% contained and there's a lot of air traffic from sunup to sundown. Simultaneously and literally around the corner from my house, another fire whipped through a field.

This card serves for a few different online card challenges of CASology (beach) and CardMaker Magazine Card Challenge Corner on Facebook (shimmer). I wanted to jump out of my box and do something different. Even though Labor Day officially declares the end of summer, when it's 95 outside daily, it's still summer in my world.

I used a lot of various product brands on this card. I like it when I can work what I have to create a project where the design of the stamp is left up to your interpretation. In this case, I used Papertrey Ink Fancy Flourishes to mimic ocean waves and fun, soft colors for 3-stamp stamping in conjunction with an otherwise bold card stock and main image, but it works. After I stamped the little seashell, I realized that it looked more like a carrot due to my color choices, so that's going into a mental file to remember this next Easter or whenever I need a carrot. Options. This whimsical card also has a wisteria starfish. A lot of different elements went into this card to pull it together. Sometimes it pays off, other times it goes into the garbage. This one almost went once I saw the "carrot" and that's why I added the rhinestones. I already had a wisteria starfish so the addition of the rhinestones was my "save." Even though this card borders on the fantasy side, I had to somehow fix it so that the "carrot" wasn't so obvious. And I bet if I didn't say anything, you wouldn't even notice, right?

I started off with a Cornflower card stock base by My Favorite Things for a side-folding A2 card and die-cut my white panel from Smooth White Card Stock using Blueprints 15 to get my stitch detail. I then pulled out Papertrey Ink Sand Swatch stamp and inked that up with Stampin' Up! Crumb Cake with a tad of Chocolate Chip. I got to work on my ocean waves using Cornflower Premium Dye Ink and several different images from Papertrey Ink Fancy Flourishes. My pink seashell was 3-step stamped with Papertrey Ink Simple Seashells. The wisteria starfish, little orange-ish shell and my sentiment is from Hero Arts, Seahorse Color Layering. I love 2 and 3-step stamping. It's very popular right now, even though it's been around forever. This really enables you to make a lovely, fast, clean and simple card with just a few different ink colors or even one ink color if you stamp it off. I prefer to use as many different colors as I can for dimension. You all know by now I love my dimension and stitch detail on everything I make. Once I stamped all of my images, I die-cut them out with their coordinating dies and adhered them to my card. The pink shell was adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals with the rest with regular adhesive. Every shell image has a layer of Wink of Stella Glitter Pen on top of it. I added the rhinestones by Stampin' Up! with Sea Breeze 6 mm sequins by Pretty Pink Posh. I adhered the entire image panel to the base of my card with Snail Adhesive. I found the rope in my stash to tie around the card on the left.

Below is a list of products that I used outside of the Papertrey Ink products. Thank you so very much for stopping by to visit me today and God bless!

  1. This is so beautiful!  I love the way you mixed colors, stamps, and textures and still remained CAS!  Thanks for joining in the fun at CASology this week!
