Live Colorfully + SSSW Challenge + CardMaker Magazine Challenge

Hello there and it’s finally Friday! Today’s card is for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge using the emboss resist technique and for the CardMaker Magazine Card Challenge Corner to make your own background.

As always, I’m going to share this card on my IG page, but will also have an organizational post too (and might as well blog about it as well) that has been helping me keep track of my projects as I usually have 3-4 going on at one time. I did have some wonderful closed storage per project, but since my move 1-1/2 years ago, I can’t seem to find all 4 of my containers. Fortunately, they are inexpensive enough, but very large and bulky and I don’t think that it would work for my current needs. Hopefully I can find closed inexpensive storage that is smaller to keep everything together while I’m working on a project. This is very useful before you’ve blogged your project too so that all of your supplies are together and then you simply put them away where they belong – good luck with that when it comes to me – after you’ve fully completed your project. I actually have a gorgeous piece of furniture that would look fabulous in my craft room, but I’m out of wall space. I could move a shelf, but that would entail patching and painting. I think I’ll seriously kick this around the more I think about it.

Anyhow, I’m on the fence over how my card turned out and it’s a comedy of errors. I had heat embossed MFT Stamps Lined Up Dots Background onto Tim Holtz/Ranger watercolor card stock on the smooth side with Stampendous Fine Detail Gold embossing powder, used several colors of distress ink in rainbow color and then did the water splatter technique. This completely ruined my image panel. As I attempted to redeem (cover up my big mistake) this image panel by applying more ink, it really messed up my beautiful and seamless blending of colors I had going on as I used the same distress ink to fill in where the water splatters had removed the ink. I had some great blending going on while trying to re-ink until I hit the Wild Honey and Peeled Paint Distress Ink and it pretty much went south from there until I hit the blues.

For my sentiment panel, I used MFT Rainbow Greetings stamped with Versafine Onyx Black ink, which was heat embossed that onto 43 lb. vellum card stock with clear embossing powder and used MFT Basic Edges Die-Namics to continue with the stitch detail on the gold foil card stock by Stampin’ Up! that I had die-cut from the largest MFT Single Stitch Line Rectangle Frames. I should have used a rubber mat while embossing the vellum as the Basic Edges dies are only supposed to leave an impression, not cut through the card stock. If I had used regular 80-110 lb. card stock, it would have left the impression I was after, but it cut right through the 43 lb. vellum card stock. I probably should have stamped my sentiment panel again, but by that time after trying to fix the distress background, I was ready for this card to be done. I gently bent back and forth the cut line in the vellum and just went with it.

To get my image panel to fit perfectly within the gold foil frame, I used the same Single Stitch Line Rectangle Frames to die-cut my water color card stock and simply removed the inside then got to work as stated above. The Distress Ink colors that I used for my rainbow are:

  1. Worn Lipstick
  2. Candied Apple
  3. Carved Pumpkin
  4. Wild Honey
  5. Peeled Paint
  6. Mermaid Lagoon
  7. Peacock Feathers
  8. Wilted Violet

I wrapped my vellum sentiment panel around the image panel and secured it to the back of the image panel with basic office tape. I used liquid adhesive to adhere my gold foil frame in the center of my MFT Stamps Black Licorice card stock, which is an A2 side-folding card. I adhered my image panel within the gold foil frame with Scor-Tape (or Be Creative tape, whatever they are calling it now) and it fit perfectly inside. I then added three 10 mm clear sequins for my visual triangle and my card was done.
