Sleeper Sets + What is That Image For?

February 25, 2019 by Cindy Coutts +

Hello there y’all! I’m going to focus on what I call sleeper sets and those images in different sets that you wonder what their use is for the next few weeks. My definition of a “sleeper set” is one that you do not see used very much, but you can do some amazing designs with it. A lot of times, included in various stamp sets is an image or two that makes you wonder just what it’s for, and we will cover that later this week.

Today’s project is on page 228 of the Annual Catalog. I love the color combination of Balmy Blue, Berry Burst, Grapefruit Grove, and Lemon Lime Twist. We have some In Colors retiring in a few months, with Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist.

I started out with a Berry Burst A2 top-folding base with another piece of 5-1/4 x 4 Berry Burst and did some tone-on-tone color with Berry Burst ink and the flower cluster from Artfully Folded. It’s helpful to start in the middle and work your way out for best coverage and to give yourself some wiggle room knowing you have another image panel to cover the base.

Instead of using black ink as the go-to, I used Basic Gray so it wouldn’t compete with my other colors. Basic Gray is a sleeper color that is usually only reached for seasonally in fall. You can see the contrast above and how it works. Never be afraid to play with color combinations. It’s so much easier on paper rather than on your wardrobe, hair, and face 🙂

This set is photopolymer which makes 2-step stamping a breeze. I didn’t use any alignment tools whatsoever. I trimmed the bottom of the Whisper White image panel with pinking shears. The sentiment was stamped on a thin strip of Grapefruit Grove with Basic Gray ink and popped up on Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals with a bow tied using Silver and Whisper White Baker’s Twine, and a trio of Iridescent Sequin Assortment.

With a few layers of cardstock, this card is still flat enough to mail with regular postage. Thank you so much for stopping by to visit me. Have a great day and God bless.
