Hello there friends! I had not realized how long it’s been since I’ve blogged. Welcome to Card #4 of Spring Occasions Week(s) featuring products from the new Spring Occasions Catalog at Cindy B Designs! I’ve been good about posting my projects on IG if you ever want to really keep up with me. I need to talk to the wonderful people at Integrant Services about writing up a blog post then have it automatically post to my other social media avenues, that I really do not have a lot of. I’m just horrible about keeping up with it all. I think that would be a game changing lifesaver for me.
I said that the last 2 projects of this series would be something other than a card and they will, but it also means an extra project for you. I have this gorgeous flower pot that I made for you, an adorable and easy home decor project, and an updated version of a pocket card that I will do a process video on. I’m going to have to make a blog post daily for a while to keep caught up on all of the series I have planned for you this year. I’m determined to either make it to Best Buy for a new tripod or have my friend come over and see what he can do about a ceiling mount. I’d like to check out the new Camtasia 3 to improve my videos and am still adamant about learning to do voiceovers. There’s always a time issue or something unexpected that comes up that needs to be dealt with now and there goes your entire day. You know the routine. Getting one day behind with anything usually amounts up to an entire week, then month, then year and so on.
Let’s get started! Today’s cards are made from the Special Reason Clear Mount Bundle. I have linked you to the clear mount bundle that retails for $45.75. However, if you wish to purchase the Special Reason Wood Mount Bundle, the retail price is $53.00 and that will put you over the $50 threshold so that you can choose an item from the Sale-A-Bration Brochure. If you prefer the clear mount bundle, add a Snail to your order since we all need adhesive and that will also give you the opportunity to choose a product from the Sale-A-Bration Brochure too. Options are good and I have a lot of them for you. The Special Reason stamp set coordinates with the Stylish Stems Framelits Dies.
Such a lovely bundle! The above shows 2 layering flowers and 2 layering leaves in this stamp set with a frame you can use for the 7 sentiments in this set as well. You can use them individually or layer them up. The coordinating die-cuts are amazing in their own way in that you can use them completely on their own without even using the stamp set. This makes the bundle very unique and a good investment since you can definitely get a lot of bang for your buck with so many different uses and projects that you can make. It’s a fun one. Even inside the frame of the stamp set, it’s an outline image that works perfectly with the coordinating die-cut, but there’s also rubber on the inside of the frame that you just pop out, stamp on a piece of card stock in any color that you want one of the sentiments from the stamp set that fit perfectly into the frame, or any other stamp set for that matter. The inside frame also has a coordinating die-cut too! Very cool and you can see both and how this works on my cards that I made for you today.
I have 2 cards for you. Both have the same design, but I used different colors and a few unique embellishments too. To color my flowers, I used several different colors in the same color family to build up my color, working from lightest to darkest with stamping and adding color with my finger and an Aqua Painter for light watercoloring. I love the dimension and overall beauty it adds to my design focal point. For a flatter card, I would use a simple knot rather than a bow and remove the clip from the sentiment. The card as is can still go through the mail, but you will need extra postage and it’s probably best sent in a padded envelope to keep your card as damage-free as possible while it makes its way through the postal system.
I have pink and blue flowers for you. If you changed out the sentiment and maybe the embossing folder, think baby cards. I started with the pink flower card first having no intention of making a blue flower card, but then I thought about how I love blue, gray and yellow together and gave it a try. The pink flower card is unique in its own way as well with a Pear Pizzazz card base layered with Crumb Cake embossed with the Petal Burst EF that is not predictable for this card. The only other item I have to remotely tie in the Crumb Cake is the Brass Mini Library Clip. Even though this is a retired item (109857), sometimes you can find them in the Clearance Rack of my Online Boutique. These are the little embellishments that I like to keep. I remember getting these clips minimum 5 years ago and they never go out of style. If you do not have a clip, shop your stash.
I like to tell my customers, readers, and followers to check the Clearance Rack daily for not only fabulous deals of 60% off, but this also gives you a good idea as to what’s going to retire in the future so you can make informed decisions to purchase additional products or hold off for a little bit. I am an Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator and saying something like that is probably going to hurt in sales, but I’d much rather be honest with my customers, readers and followers than boost my sales. Your craft dollar is important to me and I respect that.
I have this intense driven desire to declutter and go minimalist. Nobody will believe me, but seriously, I do. I have removed what I do not use out of the craft room and organized in clean Rubbermaids in the garage and all sorted out. I just need to get the vids up and get them out. I have to tell you that less is awesome! You really have to think because you just haven’t used that die-cut spooky Halloween fence in 2 years and got rid of it, but now you really need it back. You know that’s how it rolls. I’m way more productive. Clean up is a breeze and it’s a relief. Let’s get real. Somehow, we all have like 500 flower stamps and somehow they are all different, but yet the same. It’s amazingly unique with how saturated the industry is with product, but all have their own place. On the flip side of the coin, it’s like do I really need 14 different coffee stamps sets and of course the answer is YES! I haven’t had any withdrawals or regrets yet. Less stress, clutter and really use what I have more than 1 time or not at all. Public service announcement over.
Want to see my cards? We will start with the pink flower card first.
Since I keep all of my colors ROYGBIV, I started out with Pink Pirouette as the base color of my flower and stamped and layered my way down to Real Red with Blushing Bride, Melon Mambo and Rose Red in between. My leaves were stamped using Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive. All florals were covered with a Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pen and then die-cut out with their coordinating die-cuts. Keep in mind that Stampin’ Up! inks are water-based and will reactivate with the Wink of Stella Pen. Be sure to swipe your pen around on a clean piece of scratch paper to get rid of any potential color remaining on the tip of the brush so that you do not accidentally cross-contaminate.
I used Pear Pizzazz for the base of my card and Crumb Cake embossed with the Petal Burst EF. I added a piece of fun foam to the back of the embossed panel. I was very happy to find some coordinating Pink Pirouette Seam Binding. I wrapped the seam binding around the embossed panel and adhered it to the front of the card. I set out to arrange my flowers and leaves on my card, liked where I had everything and then adhered with glue dots, Stampin’ Dimensionals and Snail. I then cut another length of seam binding and did a cheater’s bow at the bottom of my floral arrangement.
I always hit pay dirt when I find some textured card stock and found a little piece of Blushing Bride that I stamped the large frame onto with Melon Mambo ink. I then stamped the sentiment panel onto Whisper White card stock with Blushing Bride ink for the background and stamped my sentiment with Tip Top Taupe. That color will be retiring at the end of May and I wish I had used it more, so I’ll wear it out over the next few months. I added a few Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back to the sentiment panel, added the little brass clip, adhered it to the mat, which was then adhered to the embossed panel with Snail. That’s how easy both cards were to make.
My blue flower card is only different in the colors that I used and how I layered together 3 of my leaves using the coordinating die-cuts only. You can also use the flower in the same manner with using card stock or designer series paper. That is what is so versatile about this set.
I used the same colors on the green leaves. For my blues, I started with Soft Sky and worked my way down to Pacific Point. I was really taken aback by surprise how well and easily the blues blended together. I used my MISTI with the blue flowers and I described above how I made my pink flowers. What a difference the MISTI makes. The blue flowers look so much better, more blended and cohesive, as well as being able to really identify the numerous blues. This card has a Basic Gray card base with an embossed Delightful Dijon panel. I added 3 layered leaves from the die-cuts with Smoky Slate and Basic Gray and alternated the layers. No stamping needed!
I found some Soft Sky Seam Binding (my favorite ribbon is seam binding as it’s so easy to work with and pliable) and wrapped that around the embossed panel with a cheater’s bow too.
For the sentiment layer, I used a piece of Pool Party card stock stamped with Island Indigo for the frame and another piece of Whisper White card stock stamped with Soft Sky and Tip Top Taupe for the sentiment. I used a silver slip this time since it worked very well with the gray and Wink of Stella Glitter Pen.
Well my friends, that’s about it for me today and certainly enough! I hope that you enjoyed my cards. Try and make a few yourself. They are so fun and easy. Imagine all of the color possibilities you have right at your fingertips!
